This is an overview of the Gurez Valley Tour Package. Gurez, or Gurais (Guráai in the local Shina Language), is a valley located in the high Himalayas about 86 kilometres (53 mi) from Bandipore and 123 kilometres (76 mi) from Srinagar, to the north of the Kashmir Valley. At about 2,400 metres (8,000 ft) above sea level, the valley is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. It has diverse fauna and wildlife including the Himalayan Brown Bear and the Snow Leopard. The Kishanganga River flows through the valley.Â
The valley lies near the Line Of Control, which separates it from the Astore and Neelum Districts of Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Being situated very close to the Burzil Pass, which leads into Astore, the inhabitants are ethnic Dard/Shin. They speak the Shina language and have the same styles of dress and culture as their kinsmen in Pakistani-administered Gilgit-Baltistan. In this Gurez Valley Tour Package, we have included all of the famous locations.
The significance is that the Gurez is the last latitude of India, which is why it is very unlike any other part of Kashmir. The topography changes totally even though it is only 6 hours north of Srinagar. You will notice it in the trees especially. The trees are different, and so is the way they are laid out in the valley. The Razdan pass you cross to get to Gurez pushes you to a very different landscape. Just like how it is when you cross the Rohtang Pass in Manali. In fact, our trek in Gurez reminds us more of our treks in Kyrgyzstan and Georgia than they do of our treks in Kashmir — so different is the landscape. We feel we are in a different locale even though we are in Kashmir.
Our vehicle will pick up you from Airport or Hotel early morning. Then we will travel to Gurez Valley. At Tragbal we will stop for a tea break. On the way to Gurez valley, you can enjoy chilling winds at Razdhan top. Other sightseeing will include Peerbaba, Zetikus Naala, Garurai Naala.
Check in to the Hotel(Dawar) and Dinner.
After having breakfast we will travel to Tulail Valley which is called mini Ladakh. You can enjoy the gushing water of the river Kishan Ganga. The zero vegetation on one side and full vegetation on the other side of the mountains are mesmerizing. In Purana Tulail we will walk through the village where you can see the old houses made of logs. We will return back to Dawar after visiting Sheikhpora village.
